Loop of old fortified houses Saint-Gervais discovery tour

Saint-Gervais is one of the few communes in Haute-Savoie to have preserved so many fortified houses around its village, either intact or with significant remains. Take a stroll and discover the history of these buildings and the families who lived in them, and immerse yourself in the life of this valley! Situated on a route linking the Arve valley, the Beaufortain and the Tarentaise, the town of Saint-Gervais has occupied a strategic position since medieval times.

As a place of traffic and exchange, allowing economic and political control, the lords’ strongholds were organized around the Bonnant gorges and their passage. Concentrated around the village, these buildings are brimming with unexpected stories: lords, counts and the great families of Savoy may have lived here. As you stroll through the village, you’ll find information panels to help you learn more about each of the buildings.

Urban art trail Contemporary art at the foot of Mont Blanc

The commune of Saint-Gervais is decompartmentalizing places dedicated to art and taking the risky gamble of placing artworks where you wouldn’t expect them, creating an unprecedented urban and contemporary art trail! In 2017, the unique project of integrating works of art into the downtown parking lot of the commune of Saint-Gervais was born. With curator Hugues Chevallier, the 11 invited artists, the team of volunteers, and the many patrons who have supported this project from the outset, this unprecedented urban art platform, 2KM3 Saint-Gervais contemporary art plateform, was born.

For lovers of contemporary art, the Parcours d’Art Urbain is a must-see. Let yourself be surprised by the transformation of streets into open-air art galleries. On this unusual route, you’ll discover works by local and international artists who have chosen Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc as their canvas for expression. Discover the city’s walls and nooks and crannies, filled with striking murals, modern sculptures and ephemeral installations. Come and stroll through a creative universe that never ceases to renew itself, and let yourself be seduced by the diversity of styles and messages conveyed by these urban creations.
