During a weekend in the countryside, Laura, a student in Berlin, miraculously survives a car accident. Physically unharmed but deeply shaken, she is taken in by Betty, who witnessed the accident and cares for her affectionately. Gradually, Betty's husband and son overcome their reluctance, and an almost family-like tranquility settles in. But soon, they can no longer ignore their past, and Laura must face her own life.
