In the waters surrounding Mauritius, a team of scientists is studying a family of sperm whales.
Screening and conference with Stéphane Granzotto, as part of the promotion for the upcoming Saint-Gervais Nature Film Festival from April 16 to 19.
Long hunted by whaling ships, sperm whales nearly disappeared. Studied from the surface for many years, the underwater life of these large predators remained a mystery. Off the coast of Mauritius, for seven years, a team of scientific divers shared the life of a clan of cetaceans and attempted to unravel the mysteries of their communication. Witnessing intimate moments in their lives, from exchanges between a mother and her newborn to the relationship between the latter and its “nanny,” they attempted to decipher the secrets of their dialect, as well as the complex relationships woven within this matriarchal and supportive society.
Directed by F. Sarano, R. Heuzé, and S. Granzotto.
