Description

From the Nid d’Aigle, this beautiful descent towards Bellevue via the Plateau de l’Are takes you through unspoilt natural surroundings. It’s a challenging route, but one that’s rewarded with stunning scenery.
Take the legendary Mont-Blanc Tramway to its terminus at Nid d'Aigle, the gateway to an exceptional high-mountain environment. Right from the start, the route offers remarkable views of the Bionnassay Glacier and the surrounding peaks. The hike begins with a long descent along a path. After several hairpin bends through a vast scree slope, the route reaches the ‘ladder’ section, an exposed, equipped section requiring caution and confidence on mountainous terrain. This section is strongly advised against for those prone to vertigo. Beyond this obstacle, the path returns to gentler terrain and continues through a wild and unspoilt landscape. You then reach the Plat de l’Are, a vast high-altitude plateau offering beautiful views of the Mont Blanc massif and the surrounding mountain pastures. The hike ends with a gradual climb up to the Bellevue site. This demanding route, mainly downhill but punctuated by technical sections and a final climb, offers a wonderful immersion in the spectacular landscapes of the Saint-Gervais valley and the Mont Blanc massif.
