Chapel of Bionnassay

Historic site and monument, Religious heritage, Chapel, Baroque in Saint-Gervais-les-Bains
  • The Battendier family and another 20 heads of village families were the impetus behind the creation of this chapel in 1480.

  • In the middle ages, the hamlet of Bionnassay had the largest population in Saint-Gervais, yet it was also one of the furthest from the village centre. The
road to the parish church was difficult, especially in winter, and that is why a chapel was founded in 1480. The Battendier family and another 20 or so
heads of village families were the impetus behind this creation.
