Description
The unmissable ski touring race in the Mont Blanc region, ‘La Diagonale du Mont-Joly’, is back – rediscover this iconic route. Whether it’s the Vertical Kilometre or the Mini DMJ, there’s something for all ability levels.
It will start at the bottom of the Chattrix chairlift (Saint-Nicolas de Véroce) at 1,200 metres, follow the ‘Petite Épaule’ and then the ‘Grande Épaule’ runs in turn, and finish at the top of the Épaule chairlift at 2,135 metres – a vertical climb of 935 metres.
The Mini DMJ, meanwhile, finishes at the top of the new Chattrix chairlift at an altitude of 1,660 metres, with a vertical climb of 460 metres.
Programme (subject to change):
- 5.00 pm to 6.00 pm: collection of race numbers and drop-off of runners’ bags at the Chattrix chairlift.
Runners’ bags will be taken up to the Restaurant le Schuss and collected by competitors after the race.
- 6.30 pm: start of both races – the DMJ and the MINI DMJ – from the Chattrix chairlift in Saint-Nicolas de Véroce.
- 7.15 pm to 9.30 pm: Welcome reception for competitors at Restaurant le Schuss.
- 8.30 pm: Prize-giving ceremony (awards for the winners of each category) followed by the post-race meal (soup, pasta and dessert).
- 10.00 pm: the piste closes.
Registration is subject to availability (maximum 110 competitors)
> You must be at least 18 years old on the day of the race to compete in the DMJ.
> You must have reached the age of 15 to be eligible for the Mini DMJ classification.
For underage runners, parental or legal guardian consent is required.
Compulsory equipment:
- Ski, climbing or mountaineering helmet;
- Skis with a waist width of at least 60mm, a tip width of 80mm and a tail width of 70mm, with metal edges covering at least 90 per cent of the length. Splitboards are permitted;
- Bindings (front and rear) must be from the same manufacturer and allow heel movement during the ascent and heel locking during the descent, with a lateral and frontal release system;
- Boots that come up above the ankle with lugged soles;
- Rucksack containing emergency kit;
- A pair of poles with baskets;
- A head torch with a spare battery or a second head torch;
- A survival blanket measuring at least 1.80 m², unmodified from the factory;
- At least 500 ml of water;
- Upper-body clothing, long-sleeved, in the participant’s size. A minimum of three layers, including a ‘windbreaker’. A fourth long-sleeved thermal layer, ‘high-mountain quality clothing’, is recommended;
- Lower-body clothing, long trousers, in the participant’s size;
- Ski skins: covering at least 50 per cent of the surface area and 50 per cent of the length of the ski
- A pair of gloves and a hat
- A whistle
- A working mobile phone with a fully charged battery
