Description
Jean Sésiano, a hydrogeologist, explains the water cycle in the Alps, in Haute-Savoie, in the Val Montjoie.
Starting with a general overview of ‘The Paths of Water’, the speaker will go on to give specific examples from the Val Montjoie.
For example: the anomaly in water density as a function of temperature, illustrated by the examples of Lake Jovet (and Lake Geneva, which is under threat).
Another example: fresh water dissolves rocks (gypsum, salt); if acidic (corrosion), it dissolves limestone: lapiaz, caves, concretions (Grotte aux Fées, Les Contamines)
